Malcolm X. 1992. Directed by Spike Lee.
A great clip from the film Malcolm X starring Denzel Washington. Look for Frankie Manning in this clip. He was the choreographer and taught Denzel how to Lindy. You may also spot lindy great Ryan Francois in this dance scene, too. This dance scene is held at what was to be a re-creation of Roseland Ballroom in New York but Malcolm X danced mostly at the Savoy Ballroom, the birth place of Lindy. The band is a recreated Lionel Hampton Orchestra using the original tune "Flying Home" by Lionel and his band. The civil rights leader, Malcolm X, wrote in his autobiography how much he loved the lindy hop.
